Remakes, Remakes, Biopics…
In Hollywood, very few producers will dare originality. Instead, they prefer making easy money by remaking some old fan favorites from the 80′s. But who can blame them? From a business point of view, the idea is flawless. Think about it:
- You don’t have to write an original screenplay. Update it a bit, and shoot a movie less than a month or two later.
- You already have a fan base. Less marketing.
- You can sell the dvd of the original in a new edition.
Remakes are nothing new in Hollywood. For instance, 12 Angry Men, Ben-Hur and Magnificent Seven are all based on previous movies. The difference is perhaps that in the past there was more of a concern to create a good story. I still haven’t seen The Thing’s remake or the new Footloose, which will both be released friday, but something tells me that we’ll get the usual insipid adaptation. Continue Reading
