As Ron Howard is ready to start shooting ‘Rush‘ this weekend, let’s take a look at another Formula 1 movie project which…unfortunately never came to be.

During the late 70′s, Gilles Villeneuve was probably one of the best racers out there. Unfortunately, he died in a tragic accident at the age of 32. He quickly became a Canadian icon, especially in Quebec, where he was born.

According to the Gilles Villeneuve Museum,  in 1990 there were some talks of a biopic staring Michael J. Fox! Although many people remember reading about it in the newspapers, no further details can be found. It would have been a great way for Fox to change his image, but he chose to make two sequels to Back to the Future instead, go complain! Continue Reading

Abandoned Movies: The Trial of the Chicago 7

No Comments 11 July 2011

chicago 7In that period of time between the release of Charlie Wilson’s War (2007) and The Social Network (2010), Aaron Sorkin wrote a screenplay on the trial of 7 political activists nicknamed the “Chicago 7” called…well…The Trial of the Chicago 7.

The project rapidly gained a lot of buzz when Dreamworks, or more specifically Steven Spielberg himself, bought the rights to it. Things were going well, a few stars like Sacha Baron Cohen, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Will Smith, Heath Ledger and Kevin Spacey were rumored to be attached, and then, due to the Writers Guild of America strike, there were too many delays and compications so Spielberg abandonned the idea to make Tintin instead.

Abandoned Movies: Tusker

Tusker was supposed to be an animated movie about “the saga of a young elephant’s journey of discovery, heroism and redemption, which intersects with and renews the life of a reclusive old elephant who has always been an outsider”, according to Imagi. Tusker was written by Ted Tally, screenwriter of Silence of the Lambs. It was supposed to be one of the first productions by Dreamworks Animation, but for some reason the project never came to be. Back in 1998, Jodie Foster, Morgan Freeman and Dana Carvey were all signed to the voice casting.

A few years ago, Imagi bought the project from Dreamworks because Cecil Kramer, who once was co-head of production at Dreamworks, tranfered the project. Sadly, Imagi closed down due to the poor box office performances of TMNT and Astro Boy. Tusker has been abandoned ever since.

Update: Imagi closed down but they reopened since then and they claim to be debt-free.
